Mercado Libre, led by Marcos Galperín, will introduce its own streaming service, currently in pilot testing by users within the Mercado Libre platform.
The new OTT, Mercado Play, will be a free service supported by advertisements and accessible through both mobile devices and web browsers. Additionally, Mercado Libre's Level 6 users will have the opportunity to access a combo that includes both platforms at no cost.
Initially, the service will be exclusively available in Argentina, with plans to expand to other countries in the region, including Brazil, Mexico, Chile, Colombia, Uruguay, Peru, and Ecuador.
Mercado Play will offer a variety of movies, such as "Reservoir," "Django," "Inglourious Basterds," "Karate Kid," "Zombieland," and "Whiplash," among others, as well as series and content for children.
Prior to this venture, Mercado Libre had already entered the streaming platforms market by establishing partnerships with various OTTs, such as HBO in 2020, and later incorporating Disney+, Star+, Lionsgate+, and Paramount+.
